It all began in the late 1970’s when my father enrolled me in the local U.S.A. Goju Karate Dojo. My teacher was Tom Locasio, a student of Peter Urban. After a year or two he closed his Dojo. At the time of this closing another school was opening in the same area. So, I joined Kyoshi Ron Austin’s Jaribu System of Martial Arts. I studied there from 1979 to 1988 on and off and studied privately with a few of his Black Belts. “Oyango” Francis Hutchins and Roberto Rodriguez just to name a few.

Around 1987 – 1988, I felt a desire to move away from my beloved Karate on to learning the system that made Bruce Lee famous – the illustrious Wing Chun Kung Fu. I researched and found the best teacher I could find at the time. When I joined the small class I noticed the teacher wasn’t that excited about Wing Chun but was strongly advocating this Emei Qigong. I knew nothing about it but I had heard of Qigong and Taiji, although I didn’t have much interest in learning these systems at the time. I was apprehensive, I felt it was a business pitch, but being the open minded skeptic that I am, I gave it a shot.

I came to class ready for this Emei Qigong warming up, dropping into splits, stretching, etc. When class began I was ready. We went into a ready position and held the ball. I was waiting for the next move, the next new technique, etc. My point is that it was totally different to me. Instead of kicking and punching I was holding postures and breathing. At first, I was reluctant. It was painful, boring, and I didn’t think there was any use for these techniques at all. I told my teacher and he told me how can one have Kung Fu without Qi (energy). How can you do anything in life without Qi?!?!? If you nourish your energy supply you can accomplish just about anything in life. “Energy permeates the universe!” I thought about this concept and it helped me to continue on a little longer, until one day about a month into my practice and “Bam!!!.”

It hit me when I was standing with my arms straight out in front of me, I felt this mysterious Energy and it hit hard. From that moment on I never looked back. With my 20 Year Anniversary quickly arriving, it was one of the single best decisions I have made in my life. We even made the first pilgrimage to Emei Mountain(China) in 1990.

We learn directly from the lineage Holder so it is our responsibility to learn it correctly and keep it pure, the way it was handed down for almost 800 years. I have since healed many people and have cultivated and developed on many different levels and in many different countries in various Qi(energy) power places.

I went to Emei Mountain in China(1990) to further cultivate my studies. It was on this trip when we stopped in Hong Kong that I saw a demonstration of Chen Style Taijiquan. I was flabbergasted. When I came back to the states I found what I thought to be the best teacher in Chinatown, New York. Nan Lu was my teacher and he taught at his school the American Taoist Healing Center. In 1991 while at a competition in Virginia “A Taste of China”, I heard about a master from Chen Village where the system was developed a few hundred years earlier. I was awestruck by his performance and became his 3rd American Disciple. The first 2 Disciples, I believe were accepted only days earlier. Ren Guan Yi is Chen Xiaowang’s Chief Disciple. He lived and studied with Chen Xiaowang day and night for 10 years. I was fortunate enough to be able to study the entire system with him in private (one on one).

After culminating and cultivating these 3 systems, I eventually studied with my teacher’s teachers and Lineage Holders directly. After many years of studying and teaching and teaching and studying I took on one more system. Traditional Liu He Men/Ziranmen (Six Harmony Natural Style School). I studied this system privately with one of Wan Laisheng's (Lineage Holder) top students, Chen Ying. Remember the proverb, "A teacher for a day is like a parent for a lifetime."
